Ballroom
Always one step ahead
Ballroom dancing started many years ago. It was one of the first forms of dance to be danced as a couple.

The waltz and the foxtrot were two of the first dances on the scene.

As time went on two forms of foxtrot were being danced.
A slow version and a quick version.
The slow version forms the foxtrot as we know it today.
Also a social rhythm danced today is also loosly based on the slow version and is danced to the same music

The quick verion in time became the dance known today as the quickstep. This dance has now become even more lively with lots of hops and skips in the dance.

Tango also forms part of the ballroom dances and this dance came to us from the argentine via france at the start of the 20th centuary.

Movement in waltz and foxtrot is very flowing and gracefull.

In quickstep the movement is very lively and fun in its character.
The tango is very sharpe but at the same time very controled. There are many slow and fast movements danced to show light and shade to bring out the character of the dance.
Ballroom dancing is a great way to keep fit as all the damces require a great deal of stamina and contrl in what you are doing .
